Should I add a watermark and upload the artworks as HD quality works? Or should I leave it be in lower resolution and without a watermark? How to prevent my art from art thievery? I think about that since the beginning of 2018, because: Yes, I am a bit afraid that somebody could steal my art and I guess any artist is.

So I came to think…

Will it really prevent art thievery if I just put a watermark on the image? – The answer is no, cause it’s easy to remove a small watermark and to be honest a big watermark just ruins the complete piece. If you place the small watermark in the center it has the same effect.

Will it prevent an art thief if the image is in a bit lower resolution? - Again no, I would need to drop the resolution to 72 dpi or under 50% of the saving quality. This option would only make the artwork look awful and again ruin it.

So? The option I prefer is: HD quality without watermark. My >V< on the drawing needs to be enough, even so you also can erase it, but I would not want to upload unappealing stuff or ruined artworks. I prefer aesthetic and that would be gone. Plus, I don’t want to show you guys my artwork in low quality, cause if you enjoy my artwork I want you to have the privilege to enjoy to the fullest! To be truly honest I would not enjoy low resolution work at all, because you don’t get to see the real piece and the beauty of the real work could and would not be appreciated.

And anybody telling me: Low resolution would also be appreciated. That’s not completely true. If you could decide between a HD quality drawing and a low-resolution drawing with the idea to prevent art thievery, you would understand the second one but would prefer the first. Plus look at my poll: People rather would like to see high quality art.

If there is somebody stealing my art (even so I didn’t encounter any art thief yet and hopefully-but highly unlikely-will never have to deal with one), I just can hope and count on the reasonable people that will inform me about that. However, that might become difficult if people don’t know me or just don’t care of even worse, don’t know that it’s not legal to do so- and hell there are a lot of people in the world that don’t know that reposting stuff they don’t own without permission isn’t a legal action.

Somebody said I should add a small watermark on it, so that people can at least recognize the artist. It’s possible that people could still erase it or just crop it off, but it would rise the security of my artworks and people could easily recognize who drew it, if it’s just reposted or shared without any additional manipulations. I will still try to place them as invisible as possible to prevent the artwork from being ruined.

If anybody thinks the decision I made is naive or useless, since I could also give my artworks away for free then: Might be right, might be wrong. Sure, it’s not the perfect prevention from art thievery but watermarks can be erased, watermarks ruin artworks, low resolution don’t prevent, only if they are so low that they ruin the work AND not uploading stuff is the most silliest option.

-The online world is a way better spot to gain attention on anything and especially art if you have places as for example DeviantArt, Instagram, Tumblr and many art forums. Things in the internet go way faster viral than in the real world, cause it’s a medium that can spread stuff, fast and global!-

So what’s my point: I can’t prevent art thievery but I will hazard the consequences of uploading my art online, with a possible erasable watermark, in high quality. In the end, if I find out that you stole my artwork, sold it whatsoever, you will be in trouble and not me. Doesn’t matter if you are a single person or a company, cause the act is still the same: You steal intellectual property and break the law of copyright.

If you see any kind of stolen art, please inform them or ask the uploading person if they have permission and that they should give credit to the original artist in case they have permission!!

Ask artist before you just repost their stuff! Imagine your work was just uploaded or shown somewhere else and everybody believes that it was their work, they will receive all the credit and you? You will receive nothing but feel terrible. Don’t make people feel terrible, be nice, inform yourself.

Thanks for reading till the end.

Art thievery, copyright etc. is a big and difficult topic, if you want to know more about it: More about the stuff above

Shizaya Page 2 - nearly finished (needs shades and I need to redo a thing ( a freaking bed... cause it seems like I am not mentally prepared to draw a simple bed... but perspective poses as those on page 3 are easy-peasy...), page 3 is finished- just minor detail correction -, page 4 in the making but will be released shortly after 2 & 3 ( which will be released tomorrow or Thursday, depending on my time)

KHR fanfiction - will be updated tomorrow with a sketch (sorry guys for the long break, stuff to do &  (i’m honest) sudden laziness)

Link Modern Style Version - ughhh... he is finished and I even cutted the speed paint but I still need to add stuff to the motorcycle and yes it’ my first time drawing one so... I need time to learn)

... probably I forgot something but I am about to finish everything this week ( if nothing unexpected happens)
